The Wines….

Left Coast Cellars White Pinot Noir

93% Pinot Noir and 7% Pinot Blanc from Willamette Valley, Oregon.

What began in 2011 as a small experimental wine quickly blossomed into one of Left Coast’s most unique and popular wines. The pure Pinot Noir juice is fermented in stainless steel and then aged on the lees. The result is a wine that bears the body and aromas of a classic Pinot Noir with the composition and brightness of white wine flavors

The fruit is crushed at extremely cold temperatures to ensure minimal color transfer from the skins. The juice is fermented in 100% stainless steel and aged on the lees for 5 months.

Notes of Peach, Honeysuckle, Pear and Gardenia on the palate.

Domaine Geschickt Grand Cru ‘Kaefferkopf’ 2017

100% Gewürztraminer.

Domaine Geschickt is an exciting producer from Ammerschwihr in Alsace just north of Colmar who have been farming biodynamically since 1998. The small village of Ammerschwihr lies in a beautiful valley and the town is surrounded by grape vines.

Gewürztraminer is an interesting grape that has become even more interesting with the advent of macerated (skin contact) wines. In the case of this grape variety we avoid the use of the term ‘orange’ as the macerated juice actually turns a bright pink!

The grape is related to Savagnin but not directly even though it is roughly translated as ‘spicy traminer) and the Traminer grape variety is the same as Savagnin. Savagnin has a mutated form called Savagnin Rose (many other white grapes have a Rose mutation) and Gewürztraminer is a variant of Savagnin Rose.

This an absolutely delicious wine which derives power and elegance from the complex limestone and granite soils in this magnificent Grand Cru vineyard.

It is highly unusual to see a Grand Cru wine that has undergone skin maceration in Alsace, but this one definitely shows the potential for such wines. It will last for a long time and will pair with a wide range of foods.

Ferraris Agricola, Opera Prima Ruché of Castagnole Monferrato D.O.C.G 2016

100% Ruché fermented in Stainless Steel Tank and French Oak

Born from the love that binds a grandfather and a grandson, the company’s founder and his future heir, Opera Prima is a new interpretation of Ruché. A wine of the highest quality, dedicated to the most discerning palates. The creation of such a product begins with the perfect vineyard, Bricco della Gioia, a small plot where the soil, exposure, microclimate, care and selection combine to create a unique and inimitable wine. At its heart the wine is a deep and compact ruby red with an initial garnet nuance. Once poured an elegant blend of blackberries, dried plums and sub-glazed cherries emerge, intertwining with floral hints of rose petals. Despite its relative youth, the wine’s refinement in wood allows for tertiary notes to appear, from which mentholated aromas, sweet tobacco and fine spices can be recognized. Its power and structure are balanced by elegance and finesse, while the warm, soft and persistent taste is harmonized by fruit and fine tannin. The company’s “jewel”, each bottle of Opera Prima is stored in a unique cellar carved out of the ground that has belonged to the family for generations, waiting for a special moment to be shared.

Robert Barbichon Brut Rose de Saignée

100% Pinot Noir from Gye-sur-Seine

Robert Barbichon is one of a handful of the new breed of biodynamic producers who appears to have got it. With 9 hectares of vines in Gye sur Seine, Courteron and Celles sur Ource he produces wines of exceptional clarity, structure and intensity.

His Rose de Saignee undergoes 48 hours of maceration to produce a succulent palate full of blackberry, damson and grenadine.

The Champagne is a well-supported pink, which is shivered with pretty and delicate bubbles. They carry crisp aromas of red fruits (strawberries and raspberries predominate) and a freshness that makes you salivate. On the palate, finally, we find the expected liveliness, but also spicy notes, and a remarkably long and vinous finish for a champagne.
